《惡靈古堡》原班人馬挑戰科幻驚悚片型，丹尼斯奎德主演。
本片融合未來科幻、地球議題、心理衝突等元素，有著濃厚警世預言的意味。一艘載著各式地球物種、仿如諾亞方舟的極樂號，因為近兩百年後地球人口爆炸、住不下，滿載人類希望，航向外太空的樂土。隨著船艙裡航員紛紛甦醒，因深度睡眠而凌亂斷裂的記憶，逐漸拼湊自己的身分和此航的目的。
《顫慄異次元》特別之處在於「懸疑」氛圍的佈局和營造，從一開始幽閉船艙的掙脫，陸續與迅捷變種人短兵交接，到「自己人」的不期而遇，處處小驚喜，讓人想起《記憶拼圖》的手法；四千萬美金的預算，並沒有讓觀眾暴露在視覺疲乏的砍砍殺殺或血腥畫面，但《惡靈古堡三部曲》和大師的幕後團隊也並沒有讓怪物閒著，恐怖變種人的襲擊和未來船艦的打造，讓這部太空預言多了驚悚的視覺特效。
最讓人驚艷的是班佛斯特的演技，之前以《布魯斯威利之終極黑幫》演出讓人印象深刻的他，這回表現依然可圈可點。丹尼斯奎德飾演因長期飛行而導致創傷併發的隊長，當內心恐懼絕望飆升時，心中惡魔會讓隊員們陷入萬劫不復之境地嗎？
Two crew members are stranded on a spacecraft and quickly - and horrifically - realize they are not alone. Two astronauts awaken in a hyper-sleep chamber aboard a seemingly abandoned spacecraft. It's pitch black, they are disoriented, and the only sound is a low rumble and creak from the belly of the ship. They can't remember anything: Who are they? What is their mission? With Lt. Payton staying behind to guide him via radio transmitter, Cpl. Bower ventures deep into the ship and begins to uncover a terrifying reality.
